January 2020 CrossFit Division Athlete of the Month: Yolande T

1. Where are you from and where do you go to college/what year?
I am originally from The Netherlands. I completed my secondary education there and then moved to Cyprus where I lived for 2 years before coming to Canada. The latest College program I attended in Canada was at Conestoga College in 2009/2010. Human Resources. Looking forward to another one soon! It’s great to be a “Mature Student”.
2. What is your favorite exercise/movement in crossfit? Least favourite?
Not really have a favourite or least favourite. I find with getting better at the movement it becomes easier and more fun.
4. What is your biggest strength you are bringing to CrossFit Division?
5. What 3 words would your closest friends use to describe you?
I had to ask a friend: Dependable, Punctual,Intelligent, Empathetic, Determined.  I asked for 3 words got 5.
6. What is your favorite TV show?
None, I rarely watch TV. I do watch Netflix so now and then when away on Layovers. I recently watched the series The Good Wife.
7. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
I googled Indonesia. Like to go there in the near future.
8. What’s your favorite cheat food?
Pad Thai!
9. What superpower would you want to possess?
Be able to understand and speak all languages. I love to travel and it would be amazing to go to any country and know the language.
10. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Still figuring this out. Pretty happy though with Status Quo.
11. What do you do when you’re not crossfitting?
I work for Westjet as Cabin Manager on The Boeing 767 and 787. My schedule varies, trips away are up to 6 days. When away for that length of time with the same crew there usually is some down time to enjoy the layover destination to go sight seeing, shop, socialize. When I am home and not at Crossfit I walk, Bike, cross county ski, kayak (depending on the season) and manage my rental units.
12. What motivates you to workout everyday?
Life is so much easier with a daily workout. Mind & Body.
13. If you could program a WOD what would it be?
Glad I don’t have to come up with a WOD. I appreciate just showing up and following the daily WOD. The days I am not around I try to do a simple WOD that can be done in a hotel room or hotel Gym… 3 different movements for X amount of reps 3 times.
14. What is your biggest goal at Crossfit?
Maybe one day to join the Open, and also  be home on a day when there is a social event and attend. I regret missing all the wonderful organized social events..
15. What does a typical day in your life look like?
I don’t have many typical days.

16. What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Zentangle.( a relaxing drawing method) Dance, although not good at it but I take dance lessons so now and then in latin, ballroom and Swing dances. Bike, I bought my bike in the Netherlands.
17.  Name one thing most people would be surprised to know about you…
I like to dance even though I am so bad at it.
18. What advice would you give someone who is hesitant to join CrossFit?
Be open minded, get to a Crossfit Gym, get to know your coach, your fellow members and don’t give up. I joined CrossFit devision for the first time in 2013(? I think) I also had joined Gyms such as Goodlife several times in the past and will never go back. Even with the few days that I can attend a Wod each month it motivates me more then any other gym ever did.  Crossfit coaches are well taught on the movements and know how to suggest scaling options for any level of fitness.

In Teams of 2 Complete the following for time:
500/400 Calorie Bike
60 Sandbag Cleans #150/#100
*40:00 Minute Time Cap
*Partition calories and reps as needed with your partner.
*One Athlete working at a time.
